Shipping Units based shipping (Manual)

Published On: 04/21/2009

If you do not wish to use Realtime Calculations, you may use the Manual method for calculating the shipping using Shipping Units.

This method will callculate the shipping charges for the item or items based on the total number of shipping units in the customer's cart.

The first unti will be charged at the "Base Shipping" price entered for for this shipping option. Each additional unit will be charged at the "Cost per Add'l Unit".

Example 1

$5.00 as the Base Shipping, and $1 for the Cost per Add'l Unit:

If the customer has one item in their cart, and that item is assinged 2 shipping units, then the shipping charges will be calculated as

$5.00 + ($1.00 X 1) = $6.00

So this customer was charged $50 for the first unit in their cart, and $1 for the second unit.

Example 2

$5.00 as the Base Shipping, and $1 for the Cost per Add'l Unit:

If the customer has 3 items in their cart, and each is set as 1 shipping unit (for a total of 3 shipping units), the shipping charges will be charged as

$5.00 + ($1.00 X 2) = $6.00

So this customer was charged $50 for the first unit in their cart, and $1 for the second and third unit.

Notice that in these examples, it doesn't matter how many different items are in the customer's cart. All that matters is the total number of Shipping Units in the order.
